Palani Chinnakarupan MBA, R&D Manager, Saint Gobain High Performance Materials, Northboro, Massachusetts, USA
Bob Gernon and I worked together at Saint-Gobain R&D for over 5 years. During that time Bob was my trainer, mentor and coach in the areas of management (planning, organizing, staffing, directing, controlling), team building and leadership. When we first met I was relatively new to leadership roles. He helped me work through several levels of management complexity and mastery.
I really enjoyed working with Bob. I found him to be:
a) Very empathetic. He listened and understood the unique problems I was facing.
b) Very respectful. Even though I was a new manager, Bob listened carefully to my views and respected my opinions.
c) A great teacher. He took the time to explain not just the 'what' but also the 'how' and the 'why'. 5 years later I still use many of the lessons learned.
d) Resourceful. He put me in touch with background information, research studies, publications and books to support his recommendations.
I would highly recommend Bob as a trainer, consultant, coach and mediator. Bob has great depth and experience and he's fun to work with.
Bob is one of Canada's leading business educators and trainers. He teaches at the university level (Tyndale University College, University of Toronto), he's often introduced as a leading sales trainer and motivational speaker. Bob has travelled throughout North America and Europe delivering highly motivational and results oriented training in industries including automotive, computer hardware computer software, plumbing & heating, distribution, HVAC, consumer products, construction, R&D and many more.
How can anyone relate to all these industries? What are the shared wants and needs in every area of business?
Bob's training programs teach universal principles of effective communication, self-management, team leadership, integrity, listening, problem solving, decision making, synergistic team work, effective marketing and niche marketing techniques and management skills. While every situation is unique, the principles of efficiency (doing things right) and effectiveness (doing the right things) are enduring. The question is never: "Do these universal laws apply?" The question is how do they apply in this situation and what do we need to change in our behaviour to more effectively align ourselves with these principles."
Bob has a Master's degree in Adult Education. He builds his programs around those he works with, their unique learning styles, their knowledge and skill levels, their desired outcomes. As a result of this Bob ensures that in every course he teaches there is a lot of learning by doing, case study work, team participation and application to the real world. Bob's training motto is: "The great goal of education is intelligent action." Everything we do in our training sessions is designed to empower the individual to do their work and manage their life more intelligently, more skillfully, more elegantly.
